Capstone/Internship

Summer of 2019, I was appointed the task to teach High School Students as well as High Schools graduates, looking to further their future studies at Macau University or any other top rated schools in Asia. The Summer English Immersion Program lasted for six weeks, and it took place in Macau, China, at the University Macau. Each week I along with a local PA (Program Assistant) were appointed tasks that were to be full filled by the end of the week. The first week of the program was geared towards High Schools students who were learning English, but have never spoken to a native speaker of the language for a long period of time. This program was called The Summer High School English Program. Within this this week we had to get each students appointed to us a chance to practice their English speaking, by having daily talk time sessions, with topics pertaining to them. For example, topics like; what is your favorite food, what do you like to do when you’re not studding...etc. This was a way to give them the confidence to speak even if they only knew so much. The main program was the High School Graduate program that lasted for a month, our goal was to have each student speak English at all times. By using fun activities and group projects that would not only keep them engaged, but also allow them to be creative while having fun.

Otherwise from the curriculums, the kids took us out on a field trip to their favorite places in Macau, sharing their favorite places: to eat, shop, and hang out.

This field trip was for them to practice their English with the PAs, by asking simple questions and making small conversations. As PAs were also given the chance to share our culture and language, as a way to give them the push to go and travel the world. Working as a PA for this program gave me the drive to be more proficient in the Chinese language, especially Cantonese, the native form of Chinese spoken in Macau along with Portuguese. This program had also sparked my interest in not only taking part again, but to also teach abroad.
